Naoki Mazaki is a blacksmith located in Sanjo, Niigata. He works alone in his small workshop and handles all aspects of his knife making.

This knife is made using a core of Shirogami #2 steel laminated in wrought iron from reclaimed boat anchor chain sourced here in the USA. In person you can see the grain of the wrought iron and this should make for an amazing look when finished by natural whetstones or etched. The nashiji kurouchi displays all of the character and detail that happens during the forging process. The bevels are finished by hand to ensure an even grind and geometry. The forged distal taper is quite impressive and has a nice progressive thinness towards the tip. Lightly convexed bevels and very thin behind the cutting edge. The octagonal handle is made from magnolia and walnut ferrule.

Edge Length: 249mm
Height at heel: 55.6mm
Spine thickness above heel: 5.4mm
Weight: 226g

**Please note that the knife pictured is not always the one you will receive. Due to the handmade nature of these knives, these dimensions may vary slightly. The color and pattern of the knife, handle and ferrule may vary from knife to knife. Please contact us if you have a particular request.
