Miyagoshi Roran #200 Whetstone
Miyagoshi is a small handmade whetstone producer located in Kyoto, Japan. We have been working with Miyagoshi for years to produce our house brand Tanso stones. When we first visited their factory we were happily pleased to see just how handmade these stones were. These stones are made using a vitrified method, each batch is hand mixed, pressed under high pressure, and fired in a kiln for 36 hours.
Every batch is quality tested for cutting performance and optimum hardness. These stones have a high ratio of abrasive materials to binder providing exceptional cutting speed and feedback during use. We love the unique edges these stones can achieve, refined but with a nice amount of bite.
Massive 220 grit stone for large projects. Great for thinning, heavy repairs and starting progression on single edge knives. Has very fast cutting speed on a wide array of different steels. Since using this stone, we've been pleased with the wear resistance. Though most coarse stones are softer, we feel these hold their shape better than an array of coarse stones we've tries in the past.
