The Arare line is a collaboration between Takefu blacksmiths and master sharpener Takayuki Shibata. Each blade is forged by a blacksmith team in Takefu, then hand-finished, sharpened, and assembled by Shibata-san and his team in Fukuyama.

The core is SG2 (R2) powdered stainless steel, hardened to about 61–62 HRC for excellent edge retention, and clad in stainless steel for easy care. “Arare” means a small Japanese rice cracker. The name refers to the geometric tsuchime (hammered) pattern on the upper blade, which creates small air pockets that help food release cleanly.

Shibata’s signature ultra-thin laser grind lets the blade fall through ingredients with almost no resistance. The spine and choil are chamfered, so a pinch grip stays comfortable through long prep sessions.
